Access & Outreach

Our beginnings

Mansfield was originally founded to provide an education to those who were previously denied access to the University – a principle of inclusion and openness that’s still central to the College’s aims today. We look for the very best students from all walks of life, and have the highest proportion of state-sector students of any Oxford college.

Our Access and Outreach team

Our Senior Tutor, Lucinda Rumsey, our Registrar and Director of Admissions, Helen Brooks, and our McBain Access Officer, Sarah Large, co-ordinate Mansfield’s outreach work. They’re supported by our tutors who provide subject-specific guidance,  and a dedicated and hard-working community of student ambassadors.

If you’d like to find out more about what we can offer, please contact access.officer@mansfield.ox.ac.uk or visit our Linktree.

"Going to Oxford was not something that I had ever had in mind before, but going there opened my mind to the opportunities it would give me if I were to apply for the university."

Our link regions

Each Oxford College focuses most of their outreach work on particular local authorities – the aim is that each school and college within the UK has a first point of contact within the University for information, advice and guidance. Mansfield’s are within Yorkshire & the Humber and Greater London – Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Doncaster, East Riding, Greenwich, North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, and York.

While the majority of our outreach is targeted in these regions, we also connect with students, schools and colleges across the country.

Working with schools and colleges

Mansfield has a long history of working with schools and colleges to encourage students from under-represented backgrounds to apply to Oxford – and to support those who do so. We particularly welcome contact from schools and colleges in our link regions.

Connecting with students, parents, and carers

Each year we connect with people across the country to make sure students with the academic potential to do well at Oxford can make an informed decision about whether to apply – and if they do, can make an application that fully reflects their aptitude and enthusiasm for their subject.
