Mansfield’s reputation for creating life-changing opportunities for people to find their way to Oxford is unparalleled, and right now we’re celebrating the decades of commitment from our very own Lucinda Rumsey MBE, who is now retiring after 34 incredible years’ service.
Lucinda has made an indelible mark on Mansfield, on generations of the College’s alumni, and on the entire higher education sector – having been appointed MBE for services to widening participation in higher education.
The Lucinda Rumsey Access Fund will support all aspects of the College’s access and outreach work. Access is never a ‘job done’, and we need your support to make sure Mansfield can always reach out to the next generation of bright, hardworking people from all backgrounds.
During her 34 years at Mansfield, Lucinda Rumsey has served as English Tutor, Supernumeracy Fellow, Tutor for Admissions, Senior Tutor, Senior Proctor, and Academic Lead for Opportunity Oxford.
As Lucinda prepares to retire, we want to ensure that her name remains synonymous at Mansfield with our steadfast commitment to access and outreach.
“I came from a state school, and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in getting into – and graduating from – Oxford. I also know that there are others from backgrounds like mine who didn’t, not for a lack of talent but for a lack of opportunity. That’s part of the reason why I’ve worked as a student ambassador at Mansfield – we have to make Oxford feel like a real possibility for talented people from all backgrounds.”
