Leading by example
For Mansfield. Forever. will secure Mansfield College’s long-term ambitions to make an Oxford education accessible to talented students whatever their background, and enable transformative projects to meet its educational goals.
The campaign has been kick-started by a major donation – the largest in the College’s history – from alumnus Chris Foster, who graduated with a First Class Maths degree from Mansfield College in 2000, after attending a state school in the North West of England. He is now a Senior Portfolio Manager at Citadel, one of the most successful global investment firms.
Chris Foster said:
“I’m a believer in the University of Oxford, and Mansfield College in particular, as a world class institution. It’s highly likely it will continue to educate our future leaders of, and in, society. Who wouldn’t want the best educated in positions that make a difference? It seems obvious to me that such people need to come from backgrounds that represent the broad makeup of society.
“I believe in what Mansfield College stands for, what it has achieved so far, and I admire the ambitious, entrepreneurial and forward-thinking leadership today. That is why I was very happy to kick-start this campaign.”
“Mansfield has been a pioneer in widening access, and I think deserves significant support as a leader. A groundswell of support from many is to me just as meaningful as one person giving a lead gift. We are sending a message to the future that this is important.”
