Estate Transformation Project

Help us write the next chapter.

Mansfield is a beautiful and inspiring place to study, work and visit, but we must look ahead and acknowledge that we have long since outgrown our current space. Our financial position means we must plan for a future that will ensure Mansfield can continue to lead the way on widening participation at Oxford.

Through the transformation of the College’s estate – primarily focused on the south side rather than the historic buildings – we aim to create inclusive and accessible community and academic spaces, provide more on-site accommodation for students, enhance our historic surroundings, and achieve our net zero carbon goal by 2050.

To bring this vision to life, we have appointed a top architectural team to develop a comprehensive plan for the estate’s transformation.

We held our first and second public consultation events on 6 February and 5 June 2025 where visitors learned more about the project’s background and gained insight into the considerations that will shape the detailed proposals moving forward. Thank you to everyone who took part and gave us feedback to help us write Mansfield’s next chapter.

If you were unable to attend, you can view the exhibition boards from our latest consultation event below:

Next steps

We will be carefully considering the feedback received on our latest proposals as we continue to develop a holistic approach to our estate – one that reflects both our ambitions and the priorities of the local community.

Subject to approval by the College’s Governing Body, we will look to submit a planning application in Autumn 2025. We will share a link to the planning portal once the application has been validated by Oxford City Council. The Council will carry out its own statutory consultation in considering the planning application.
