University of Oxford Awarded Sanctuary Status

Our Principal, Helen Mountfield KC, a human rights barrister has expressed her delight at this news:

“I am pleased and proud that the pioneering work done by so many at Somerville and Mansfield, as the first University Colleges of Sanctuary, to create a welcoming, supportive environment to learn with and from people seeking sanctuary from conflict or oppression has now been adopted by the University of Oxford as a whole. This University has always welcomed and supported people and ideas which have been suppressed elsewhere; I hope this will enable us to do more of this good work and to welcome many more Sanctuary Scholars to Oxford.”
