We are truly sorry to share the sad news of the death of Geoff Fuller (BA Jurisprudence, 1980) on 11 Jan 2021.

Mansfield meant a great deal to Geoff and he to us.

He and his wife Liz were married in the Chapel, and he remained closely involved with the College throughout his life. As Liz wrote:

‘’Geoff felt privileged and grateful to have studied at Oxford and Mansfield in particular. He was very conscious of the advantages that an Oxford degree gave him both in terms of his professional life but also in terms of his intellectual existence which was much a part of who he was. He was so honoured and fulfilled to have been able to give back and to have the opportunity to return and take part in the continuing life of the College.’’

That was an opportunity he generously embraced: Geoff was a great contributor to College, and only last term, offering career advice to our students online. A member of our Development Board, Geoff was a wise adviser and a kind friend, playing an active role in all of our major developments and deeply proud of Mansfield’s achievements on broadening access to Oxford.

He played an active role in his firm’s support of Oxford University: the endowment of the Allen & Overy Chair in Corporate Law, and an Equality Officer role within the Law Faculty.

There are a great many of us in the Oxford community who will deeply miss Geoff. We will remember not only his kindness, his humanity, his love of his College, but his wonderful smile and his great sense of fun. Geoff is survived by his wife Liz, an alumna of St Hilda’s, and their 14 year old twins.

There will be a funeral for Geoff on Tuesday 9 February which you are welcome to join online; please email  development@mansfield.ox.ac.uk for the details. Geoff’s family is asking for no flowers but if you would like to make a donation in Geoff’s name, please follow this link to the British Heart Foundation:  Geoff Fuller – a gentleman and a scholar.
