On March 1st, Michael Palin, star of Monty Python, travel writer and tv personality gave a fascinating and hugely enjoyable lecture in the temporary Chapel (the former JCR) here at Mansfield, as a part of our Hilary term Friday Lecture Series.
There was not a spare seat in the house as Michael spoke engagingly and with warmth and humour, taking us ‘Around the World in an Hour and Twenty Minutes’ and covering some of the highlights of his careers in travel writing, acting and comedy.
Following the lecture, Michael took time out before dinner to speak to one of our current students, Emily Honey (VSP, 2012), a current member of the Oxford Revue comedy group that Michael founded during his time in Oxford, about his career, his time as a student, and much more besides. Look out for the interview in the next edition of our Magazine!
Michael’s lecture was the fourth in our Hilary series, which has seen Jonathan Mills, Director and Chief Exec. of the Edinburgh Festival, former College Chaplain and Emeritus Fellow Revd Charles Brock amongst others address a packed JCR. The series will end this coming Friday (8th) with Leslie Woodhead, prize-winning documentary film-maker. Look out for Trinity term’s lecture list in the near future!
