Mansfield College is delighted to announce that Stephen Appiah Kubi (Jurisprudence, 2022) has been awarded the Freshfields Stephen Lawrence (FSL) Scholarship for the current academic year. Stephen is the third Mansfield student to be honoured with this prestigious scholarship and Mansfield College is proud to be home to inspiring students like Stephen, Ajay Mehta-Graham (Jurisprudence, 2021) and Joel Semakula (Jurisprudence, 2014).
Read moreThe FSL Scholarship scheme was established by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2013 with support from Doreen Lawrence, Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon OBE. The scholarship aims to address the disproportionate under-representation of Black men from less socially mobile backgrounds in large commercial law firms and other City of London careers, by creating access to opportunities.
Stephen has the shared his thoughts:
“I was thrilled to be given this opportunity and honoured to join 13 other scholars in honouring the legacy of Stephen Lawrence. I was encouraged by my college tutor and mentor, Ajay Graham, a Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholar last year, to apply. I was drawn to the programme because of the bespoke 15-month development programme it offered, presenting me with a chance to enhance my professional skills, develop skills I may be lacking, and gain professional experience in an array of sectors. I am very excited to begin the programme and to see what the future holds and would advise anyone thinking of applying to this scholarship in future to just go for it.”
