Joyce Butler was a lifelong activist for women’s rights, consumer rights, healthcare, environmental protections and peace; and was the instigator of what became the Sex Discrimination Act, passed fifty years ago. The exhibition opening last month was packed with visitors, including Bambos Charalambous, MP for Wood Green and Southgate; Ahmed Mahbub, Mayor of Haringey and Emily Arkell, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Haringey Council.

This free exhibition runs for a year and is part of Dr Jenkins’ AHRC funded project on women’s rights and women’s liberation in the 1950s to the 1970s. For more information email Lyndsey.Jenkins@history.ox.ac.uk.
