Following the launch of Astrophoria Foundation Year by the University of Oxford, Mansfield College is delighted to be one of the few Colleges to have joined this new innovative access programme to help students from historically underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to raise their academic standards and apply successfully to Oxford.

This foundation year is a one-year academic course aimed at state school students with significant academic potential but who have experienced severe personal, social and historical disadvantage. The scheme aims to prepare the students to apply for and thrive on an Oxford undergraduate course by developing their academic skills, self-belief and confidence in this supportive and challenging one-year course.

With the support of the University’s long standing donors, we will be admitting students on this Foundation year on a wide range of courses from STEM to Humanities, from 2023 on full financial support, with tuition and accommodation fees waived. Mansfield College’s participation in this scheme follows from its proud tradition of widening access to Oxford for those with talent and potential, who, due to circumstance, ill-luck, oversight, or prejudice, may otherwise have been excluded.
