In Memoriam: Derek Goldrei

We are very sad to inform you that Emeritus Fellow of Mansfield, Derek Goldrei, has passed away.

Derek was central to mathematical life at Mansfield. We know that many of you will recall interesting tutorials and classes with Derek. He had an infectious enthusiasm for maths, a unique style of teaching, and gave wise guidance in helping people through their time here. Derek worked at the Open University, and started at Mansfield in 2003. He taught most maths undergraduates, as well as acting recently as Senior Maths Tutor. During his time at Mansfield he was a Supernumerary Fellow, Emeritus Fellow and Senior Common Room Wine Fellow.

We are very saddened by this news, and plans are being made for a memorial event at Mansfield. We send our deep condolences to all of Derek’s family, friends and colleagues.
