The Color of Peace: Poetry, War, & the Search for Sanctuary

Date: 13/06/2025

Time: 16:00 - 17:00

Location: Old Hall, Mansfield College

Join us for an afternoon of poetry, reflection, and resistance with Afghan poet and activist Nematullah Ahangosh.
Nemat’s writing reflects themes of resilience, hope, and the hardships of Afghan society, often touching on the ravages of war and plight of those affected by armed conflicts.

Nemat began writing poetry in English around 2017 while working as a peace activist in Kabul, where he collaborated with organizations focused on nonviolence. His activism later extended to education. Nemat pursued higher education in India, where he earned a bachelor’s degree at the Madras School of Social Work and studied with a scholarship from the Jesuit Refugee Service.

Now living in Brighton, Nemat founded Stretch More, an initiative dedicated to empowering disabled individuals in conflict zones and disaster-prone areas. He holds a master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development from the University of Sussex, supported by a scholarship from UniArk Foundation.

Friday 13 June, 4 – 5pm in the Old Hall
