Mansfield College is excited to announce the launch of a professional termly concert series from 2025.
Thanks to donations from an anonymous individual, and kind support from alumnus Mr Jan Fischer (PPE, 1987), these funded concerts will be offered free of charge to the public, as well as to members of Mansfield. The concerts will be held in Chapel once a term, and are an hour in length, without interval.
The inaugural concert will be on Saturday 1 March at 7pm, and will feature the young flautist Simon Kelly in a programme of French nineteenth and twentieth century music for flute and piano by Fauré, Debussy, Bizet, and Poulenc among others. James Brown will be the accompanist.
You are warmly invited to attend this free concert, which forms part of the artistic offering to the city and community by Mansfield College.
Simon Kelly is a London based flautist. He graduated with a first class degree in Music from the University of Manchester, where he was recipient of Highly Commended honours in the Jonathan Myall Piccolo Prize, as well as a concerto award from Manchester University Music Society. He continued with a masters degree in flute performance at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Karen Jones and Laura Jellicoe. Simon has worked with conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Ryan Wrigglesworth, Alice Farnham and Martin Lowe. He performs solo recitals with James Brown accompanying, on various cruise lines. He is also active as a player in various pit bands for cabarets and reviews, and is versatile across many musical theatre genres.
