Mansfield College Fellows
Throughout the University of Oxford, the term ‘Fellow’ is often used to refer to senior administrative and academic members of a College. There are various different classes of Fellowship at Mansfield, which you can see detailed below.
Tutorial Fellows are primarily responsible for teaching undergraduate students in their relative subjects. Employed jointly by the College and a Faculty of the University, they are all active researchers in their fields and members of the College’s Governing Body.
Professorial Fellows are all holders of Statutory Chairs, the most senior professorship in the University. All Professorial Fellows are members of the College’s Governing Body.
Supernumerary Fellows and Senior Research Fellows are all senior members of their University Faculty and have an official association with the College. They hold their Fellowship as a result of their distinction in research. In a few cases, their Fellowship comes from their senior administrative responsibilities in the University or College, contributing to the work of the College in a variety of ways. Supernumerary and Senior Research Fellows are usually not members of Governing Body.
Junior Research Fellows are post-doctoral researchers at the College, sometimes also teaching undergraduate students alongside their research.
Emeritus Fellowships are awarded to College Fellows who have held office for at least fifteen years before retiring, or at least twenty years before resigning. Emeritus Fellows often remain active in research.
Honorary Fellowships are awarded to those who have achieved academic or public distinction. Almost all Honorary Fellows have prior association with the College.
Foundation Fellowships are awarded to those who have made exceptional benefactions to the College, with donations in excess of £1 million.
