Fees & Finance

Planning your finances

The careful management of money is greatly important to many students. The information here is designed to give guidance to help with your financial planning during your degree course. We seek to keep our charges to a reasonable level, with meals in particular representing exceptional value for money.

When you begin your studies at Mansfield we’ll open an account for you. This is called a ‘battels’ account, which records all the financial transactions between you and the College.

Undergraduate course fees

You can find up-to-date information about course fees for Home/EU and Overseas students on the Oxford University website:

Your accommodation charges

For the 2023-24 academic year, the termly rent and utility charge is £1,919.33. This includes internet and laundry facilities – plus a small fridge and kettle for student rooms on the main College site. Each term’s rent is payable in advance at the beginning of the term.
Vacation residence is charged per room per night (inclusive of utilities and internet).

Lunch and dinner charges

Lunch and dinner at Mansfield are £4.75 per meal (2023 -24).

We pride ourselves on the quality of our catering, enjoyed by students and staff alike. Most meals are cooked from fresh ingredients, locally sourced from high animal welfare suppliers. And our vegetarian and vegan food has been voted best in Oxford twice in a row.

"I am on the Crankstart bursary. This means I got around £1,200 a term on top of my maintenance loan (Crankstart has changed slightly since I started so see the relevant website!), as well as receiving extra support with writing my CV and lots of Crankstart-specific internship opportunities and extra funding for those. I have also accessed Mansfield College’s academic expenses fund to buy a tablet and noise cancelling headphones to help facilitate my studies."

Your course deposit

All undergraduates have to pay a course deposit of either £100 (for UK and EU students), or £300 (for overseas students) before starting their course. Details of how to make payment will be included in the information pack sent to all new students.

This deposit will be held until the end of your course, and applied initially to your final battels bill (usually prepared in early July). All final credit balances on student battels accounts will be refunded by either cheque or bank transfer.
