Yorkshire & the Humber Application Residential
*BOOKINGS FOR THE RESIDENTIAL ARE OPEN UNTIL 1 SEPTEMBER 2019*
This event gives state school students from Mansfield's link areas in Yorkshire & the Humber the opportunity to visit the University of Oxford, find out more about our courses and about living at the University, and receive guidance on the application process. The residential will run from the afternoon of Thursday 19 September to the morning of Saturday 21 September. The event is timed to coincide with the University Open Day on the Friday, which students will be able to attend as part of the event.
Students will stay in Mansfield College accommodation from the Thursday through to the Saturday. They will attend workshops on the application process, and have the opportunity to speak with current Oxford students and members of staff.
The workshops will include:
- a personal statement surgery for any last-minute questions;
- a workshop on preparing for the tests;
- a workshop on interviews (including the opportunity to watch some sample interviews).
The event is free to attend, and all participants will be eligible for a travel bursary.
To be eligible to apply you must be:
- Starting your final year of school or college (i.e. Year 13) in September 2019 OR applying to Oxford after completing Year 13

Can I attend if I am planning to apply to Cambridge?
We would recommend that you do not apply for this event, as the advice given will be very specific to the application process for Oxford. However, if you are still deciding between courses at Oxford and Cambridge, this event may be a good way to help you narrow down your choice of course and University.
Can I attend if I'm not sure yet whether I want to apply to Oxford?
Yes! This event will hopefully help you to work out whether our courses and our teaching would match with your interests. You will have lots of opportunities to speak to current students and staff, which will hopefully help you narrow down your choices.
Do I have to pay to attend?
No, the event is entirely free, including accommodation and food. You will be expected to make your own way to and from Oxford, but you will have the option of applying for a travel bursary to help with the cost of travel.
How much is the travel bursary?
All attendees will be eligible for a bursary of £40. Attendees who are eligible for free school meals, whose parents are on income support/job seekers allowance, or who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend will be eligible for additional support, up to the full cost of travel.
Can I apply if I attend (or attended) a private school?
This event is open only to students currently being educated at state schools or colleges, or who have just completed sixth form studies at a state school or college.
Why are some parts of Yorkshire & the Humber prioritised for this event?
Each area of the country is linked to a particular Oxford college for outreach. Mansfield College works with schools in Doncaster, East Riding, Hull and York, so we would like to prioritise students from these areas. However, we are keen to encourage more applications from students elsewhere in Yorkshire & the Humber as well, so any unfilled spaces will be allocated to applicants from Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, North Yorkshire, Rotherham, Sheffield or Wakefield.
