The FE and Sixth Form College Open Day which was due to take take on Friday 26 June has now been cancelled due to Covid-19.
We will aim to hold a 'virtual open day' in the summer to give prospective students the opportunity to find out more about Mansfield and here from some of our student ambassadors and tutors. This page will be updated with further information once details have been confirmed.
In the meantime, we would encourage everyone to find out more about Mansfield in our Undergraduate Study pages, and to have a look at the resources we have put together under Digital Outreach, including our Isolation Conversation pieces.
Mansfield College hosts annual Open Days for students and staff in Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges. The events are attended by tutors and undergraduates from across the University, ensuring that students are catered for whatever their subject interest, and also include sessions for staff in the FE sector.
FE Access Initiative
The Oxford Further Education Access was formed by Mansfield College in 1999 as a Widening Participation Initiative with the aim of encouraging applications to the university from the Further Education (FE) sector, a particularly under-represented group at Oxford.
The FE Access Initiative works with Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges across the UK, offering talks, interview workshops, staff conferences, e-mentoring, interview information days and subject-specific study days. Lord Patten, Chancellor of Oxford University, called the FE Initiative 'one of Oxford’s most important and imaginative initiatives,' and the 2008 OFFA Agreement named it 'the most significant of Oxford’s access programmes.'
FE and Sixth Form Colleges wishing to make contact with an Oxford University representative should contact their regional link College in the first instance, but are welcome to contact Mansfield College at any time. Interested students and staff should check this page for updates about upcoming events for the FE sector.
Each year Mansfield runs several regional Application Conferences, aimed at providing Year 12 students, staff and parents/carers with information about studying at Oxford and making a competitive application. The conferences are open to students from state schools and colleges in Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Doncaster, East Riding, Greenwich, Hull and York.
The conference is designed to give prospective Oxford and Cambridge applicants an insight into the application process and what to expect. The sessions will cover an overview of the admissions cycle, information about what we're looking for in the personal statement, an explanation of the aptitude tests, and advice and guidance about the interview process.
At the end of the conference there will be a Parents and Carers Talk, which will provide information about the application process and how best to support an application. This will take the form of a short talk and a Q&A.
