The Fellows of Mansfield College, Oxford, intend to elect a Principal to take up office on 1 September 2018 following the retirement of Baroness Helena Kennedy.
Mansfield College leads the University in terms of access and outreach for undergraduate admissions, and we have a reputation for informality and openness. We are one of the smaller colleges of the University of Oxford. We combine our own unique and progressive culture with the best of traditional Oxford, offering a supportive environment in which all work together to achieve academic excellence and foster a vibrant community. We pride ourselves on the quality of our outreach activities, and believe that the highest standards of academic achievement are best reached by providing opportunities to the most talented and highly motivated students from all backgrounds.
In keeping with our ambitions and ethos, the College raised funds for and hosts the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, a research institute that falls within the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford. The Bonavero Institute seeks to foster world class research in human rights law, to enrich the experience of students who are interested in human rights and to improve public understanding of human rights. It will open in October 2017.
The Principal is the Head of College, who works in partnership with the members of the Governing Body to set and maintain the intellectual agenda for the College and ensure that its distinctive ethos and aspirations flourish. Candidates will have a distinguished record of achievement in an academic or other professional field and a track-record of combining strategic thinking and attention to detail. They will have excellent communication skills, and be able to engage warmly with a wide range of people. Experience of organisational leadership and the ability to conduct business effectively are expected along with a sound grasp of financial issues and an enthusiasm for playing an energetic and imaginative part in the College's fundraising activities.
Anyone who wishes to apply or discuss a potential application is invited to write to Professor Stephen Blundell, Chair of the Search Committee, Mansfield College, Oxford OX1 3TF (or email@example.com).
Applications should be received to Professor Blundell by 1 June 2017 and should include a covering letter and curriculum vitae. The Search Committee will be reviewing applications from the beginning of June 2017 and reserves the discretion to consider later candidates. The Governing Body expects to have elected its next Principal by the end of January 2018.
