Fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Philosophy
Mansfield College invites applications for a Fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Philosophy for three years, tenable from 1st September 2017 to 31st August 2020.
The Lecturer will be required to give six hours of tutorials a week averaged over each eight-week term. This will be a combination of teaching for undergraduates at Mansfield and for students on the Visiting Student Programme at Mansfield. The successful candidate, who should have completed (or be about to complete) his or her doctoral studies, will be able to teach the following subjects: for the first-year students: At least one of Elementary Logic and General Philosophy (metaphysics and epistemology); and for second- and third-year students, Ethics. The ability to teach Plato's Republic in translation to second- and third-year students would also be an advantage, but is not a requirement.
Applicants should also indicate which additional papers they would be in a position to teach to second- and third-year students from among those listed on the Philosophy Faculty web page: http://www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/courses.
In addition, the Lecturer will be expected to assist with undergraduate admissions at Mansfield. The salary for the post is based on the third point of the Senior Tutors’ Stipendiary Lecturer scale, currently £13,815 for the six-hour post. The post carries full dining rights, a £500 research allowance and the use of a shared teaching room in College.
Applicants should email an application form, CV and covering letter by 12 noon on 10th April 2017 to the Academic Registrar, Katherine Camm: academic.administrator@mansfield.ox.ac.uk. Candidates must also give the names of two academic referees, whom they should ask to write directly to the Academic Registrar as soon as possible and at the latest by the closing date of 12 noon, 10th April 2017.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Professor Paul Lodge with enquiries about the post (paul.lodge@mansfield.ox.ac.uk). Interviews are expected to be held in the week beginning 1st May 2017.
Applicants are also asked to complete the Equal Opportunities Monitoring form (available here) and to return it by post to Katherine Camm, Mansfield College, OX1 3TF.
