Meet Mansfield's new Chaplain
Revd Sarah Farrow has joined Mansfield as the new College Chaplain.
Sarah is originally from New York and New Jersey but has lived in London with her family for over 15 years. In 2016 she was ordained into the Lutheran Church in Great Britain and is an Assistant Minister at St Anne's Lutheran Church. Sarah is also Lutheran Chaplain at King’s College, London and the Chaplain at the International Lutheran Student Centre.
“The best part of being a chaplain is learning from other people. The conversations I have had with others over the years in this role have been so interesting. Everyone has a unique gift, just in sharing who they are and being alongside them when they discover this and share it, is just wonderful!”
Sarah holds an MA in Theology (St Augustine’s) and an MSc in Theory and History of International Relations (LSE). Prior to ordination, Sarah worked for over 12 years with the Boston University’s London Programs managing their academic programmes and providing academic advising to students.
“I know there are a challenges and changes that both students and staff face when studying and working in Universities. I am looking forward to being at Mansfield to listen and be present for any student or staff member, of all beliefs and worldviews, looking to talk about absolutely anything at all.”
We asked Sarah a few questions to get to know her.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
My daughter says, ‘funny, chatty, calm’.
What is the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
While raising money for grad school I was a cocktail waitress / bike-courier / DJ / liquor promoter / office temp / NGO volunteer. (I am used to juggling multiple jobs as you will see from my bio above!).
Tea or coffee?
Both! And a student from Hong Kong once told me there is a traditional breakfast drink there which is half-coffee, half-tea – and it’s not too bad.
If you had one superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation. Commuting would be so much easier but then I’d miss out on watching Netflix…
What are you reading right now?
The Girls of Slender Means (Muriel Spark), Shameless: A Sexual Reformation (Nadia Bolz-Weber) and A Cosy Christmas Tea Shop (for some brain candy!).
What’s your favourite place in the world?
Sarah is at College on Wednesdays and Thursdays and be found in the Crypt Café Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. She can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or on 07837 768 932.
