Mansfield voted best for vegetarian and vegan food
Mansfield has come top in a recent college-wide survey of provision of vegetarian and vegan food across the University. The Oxford University Animal Ethics Society surveyed members of the University to establish where the best (and worst) vegetarian and vegan food was to be found amongst the Oxford Colleges. Mansfield was the clear winner with 103 points - nearly 20 points higher than the next college. This comes as no surprise to anyone who eats in the College regularly, as our excellent catering team take vegetarian and vegan cooking extremely seriously. They treat the needs of vegetarians and vegans just as seriously as those of other staff and students, as of course they should. Our head chef goes out of his way to plan interesting vegetarian meals, to provide two vegetarian options every day, and to vary the vegetarian menu every day and every week to ensure that there is as little repetition in the vegetarian offer as there is for the meat-based dishes.
One student respondent commented: "They make an amazing effort every day, cook me my own individual meal, the caterer raves about his excitement about his 'new project', and each day is like being served at a 5 star restaurant. I am never malnourished or unsatisfied, it is always delicious and never haphazardly made. Mansfield truly respects all diets, especially vegetarians - and now vegans! I wish they could top the table, because I will forever feel gratitude for what they have done."
