Mansfield Ranked 1st for Vegetarian Food
Mansfield has retained its number one spot in the Oxford College Veggie Norrington Table. The Table is a survey carried out by the Oxford University Animal Ethics Society, which aims to determine the quality of vegetarian and vegan provision in University of Oxford colleges and halls. Mansfield came top of the rankings when the survey was last carried out in 2016 and since then the feedback indicates that our vegetarian and vegan offerings have continued to go from strength to strength.
Special thanks are due to our Head Chef Lee Browning’s specialist training in vegetarian cooking and his subsequent training of the team. Also to our recently-appointed Deputy Head Chef Ravi Shankaran, with his rich and varied background in kitchen management and vegetarian cooking.
Bursar Richard Scanlon commented that “Mansfield is committed to accommodating all kinds of dietary requirements. Our chefs work hard to serve a varied menu of high quality, nutritious vegetarian and we’re pleased to receive such positive feedback.”
Students, staff and faculty members were invited to take part in the uni-wide survey, and the anonymous comments left by the participants are a testament to the hard work of our Catering Team:
- “Mansfield College has meatless Mondays every week with several vegan options. All other days there is at least one main vegan option. The chef is dedicated to making nutritious vegan meals, and formal hall has always been wonderful as well. Yesterday I was provided a full vegan Thanksgiving meal!”
- “Mansfield's vegetarian options are so good and so varied that they outdo most restaurants in Oxford. They are almost always better than the meat options, and as good as the lovely fish served.”
- “Mansfield College's vegetarian range is superb, and meat free Monday is an excellent idea. I very often opt for the vegetarian option as they are always delicious and often very imaginative.”
