Caird manuscript donated to Library
Pages from Professor George Caird’s New Testament Theology manuscript donated to Mansfield College Library
Professor George Caird, a key figure in the history of Mansfield College, was a Theologian, Humanitarian and Biblical Scholar. He served first as Senior Tutor at Mansfield and then as Principal from 1970-77.
We were recently very honoured to receive a visit from James Shields, who donated eight manuscript pages from Professor Caird’s book ‘New Testament Theology’. Mr Shields worked as a Research Assistant to Mansfield alumnus, Professor Lincoln Hurst (Dip Theology, 1974) and inherited the pages from Professor Hurst.
Mansfield College's original purpose was to provide further education and theological training for nonconformist ministers. The College is still home to many Theology students.
The precious pages of Professor George Caird's manuscript will be kept alongside Mansfield’s other material relating to our former Principal. The Mansfield College Library will ensure that the manuscripts are kept safe and made available for future researchers and academics - both here at Mansfield and throughout the academic community.
