Student Support and Access
We want to ensure that the brightest and most talented students consider applying to Mansfield, no matter what their financial circumstances or personal background.
Mansfield’s founding principal of inclusion and openness is still central to the College. Our students come from all over the world and from a wide range of social and educational backgrounds - we are still the College with the highest proportion of undergraduates from the state sector. All of this makes this small community really special and we want Mansfield students to have the opportunities and the support they need to really benefit from their time here.
Gifts to the Student Support Fund are really important as they help us to target funding to activities that directly benefit students. From student welfare services and hardship funding, to prizes recognising academic excellence and travel grants, the Student Support Fund helps many aspects of student life.
The Fund also supports student access and outreach activities, to engage with students from areas that, historically, have not seen many applications to Oxford. There are a number of reasons why many state-school students still do not consider Oxford as an option. Mansfield's Admissions Office carries out around 135 events each year to help dispel the myths, inspire talented students and help provide a taste of what it is like to be a student at Mansfield.
This proactive and pioneering work has meant that on average 80% of Mansfield’s undergraduates are from the maintained sector, almost 20% higher than any other college, and around 30% higher than the Oxford average. By supporting our Access initiatives you are enabling College to continue its pioneering approach and ensuring we attract a diverse range of students to Mansfield.
