“Milton, thou shouldst be living at this hour!” Controversial seventeenth-century poet, propagandist and revolutionary John Milton has repeatedly been re-invented for different times. Professor Joe Moshenska, author of “Making Darkness Light: The Lives and Times of John Milton”, uses the poetry to encounter an extraordinary and complex human being.
About the speaker:
Joe Moshenska is Professor of English Literature at the University of Oxford and a fellow of University College, and, as a former New Generation Thinker, appears frequently on BBC Radio. He has published widely on the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and is the author of four books, most recently Making Darkness Light: The Lives and Times of John Milton.
