Open Days

The best way for prospective students to learn more about Mansfield College, and being a part of the University of Oxford, is to attend one of our Open Days. These days provide an opportunity to look around Mansfield and allow students to meet tutors and current students and participate in subject events at the faculties.

For more information about the Mansfield College Open Days or to book a place for 2012, visit our Open Day Information Page:

School Visits

At Mansfield we encourage visits from school groups in years 9-12 to provide information about Oxford and answer any questions students have about continuing their education at university level. We are particularly keen to make contact with schools with little or no history of sending students to the University of Oxford.

Each visit will involve a variety of different activities designed to give students an  impression of university life and all that Oxford has to offer. We will tailor visits to the particular needs or preferences of the visiting group, but a sample timetable includes the following:

Presentation: Introducing Oxford
Including information about courses, Colleges, finance, social life and the application process
Question & Answer session with current undergraduates
Tour of Mansfield College
Take a trip to the common room, see a typical student room and visit Mansfield’s well-stocked libraries
Lunch in Mansfield College Dining Hall
Academic Activity: Natural History Museum
An academic session in the University’s world-renowned museum.

Year 12 Presentations

Our Access Officer visits schools and colleges to give presentations to year 12 students considering making an Oxford application. These presentations help to give students an overview of university life as well as addressing some of the specific queries they may have about Oxford in particular.

For further details on any of the events listed, or to make a booking, please email admissions@mansfield.ox.ac.uk

Regional Outreach

As part of the University's ongoing commitment to engage with schools,  a scheme has been developed to simplify communication between the University and its Colleges and all schools in the United Kingdom.  Each Oxford College is now linked to a number of Local Authorities to ensure that each school has a named first point of contact within the University.

Mansfield has been linked with the following Local Authorities:

Bexley
Bromley
Croydon
Doncaster
East Riding
Greenwich
Hull
York

Please note that this scheme is not intended to replace any existing contact a school may have with Oxford, but it we hope these new arrangements will improve the communication of information and good advice for both teachers and students.

Further information on the University's Regional Outreach scheme can be found on the University website at www.admissions.ox.ac.uk/regionalisation.

Further Education Access Initiative

The Oxford Further Education Access was formed by Mansfield College in 1999 as a Widening Participation Initiative with the aim of encouraging applications to the university from the Further Education (FE) sector, a particularly under-represented group at Oxford.

For the last ten years the FE Access Initiative has worked with Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges across the UK, offering talks, interview workshops, staff conferences, e-mentoring, interview information days and subject-specific study days. Lord Patten, Chancellor of Oxford University, called the FE Initiative 'one of Oxford’s most important and imaginative initiatives,' and the 2008 OFFA Agreement named it 'the most significant of Oxford’s access programmes.'

FE and Sixth Form Colleges wishing to make contact with an Oxford University representative should contact their regional link College in the first instance, but are welcome to contact Mansfield College at any time. Interested students and staff should check this page for updates about upcoming events for the FE sector.

FE and Sixth Form College Open Days 2012

Each year Mansfield College organises two Open Days for students and staff in Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges. Both events follow a similar programme and are attended by tutors and undergraduates from across the University, ensuring that students are catered for whatever their subject interest. Both days also include sessions for staff in the FE sector.

The Further Education Open Day will take place at Worcester College on Tuesday 19th June 2012. For a programme and booking form, please click here

The Sixth Form College Open Day will take place at Mansfield College on Friday 22nd June 2012. For a programme and booking form, please click here
