Mansfield was set up in 1886 to train Nonconformist ministers and its architecture reflects the radical dissenting tradition in which the College has its roots. Whilst most colleges have high walls and gates, and an enclosed quadrangle, our buildings face out towards the world, and welcome you in. Mansfield College is an inspiring environment to live and work, with gothic architecture of golden stone, and a library with a painted ceiling, like an open book over your head.

Mansfield is a young college in Oxford terms, about one hundred and twenty five years old, and it has never developed stuffy traditions or unnecessary formality. However, in some ways we are typical of traditional Oxford; we have very high academic standards and expectations. What we offer you is a friendly and supportive environment in which to excel academically.
