Living at Mansfield

18 Regent Street

The 5 rooms in 18 Regent Street (a converted Edwardian town house) are approximately a 20 minute walk from College. The house is situated on a very quiet street between Cowley and Iffley Roads. Of all the graduate rooms available they offer one of the best locations, being close to both Tesco and the University Sports ground. All rooms are fully furnished and are very spacious: there are two shared bathrooms, a good kitchen and common room, and a back garden. Rooms in 18 Regent Street cost £454.00 a month.

UNDERGRADUATES

All our first year undergraduate students live in College, either in the Hands Building or the Garden Building (both with en suite facilities), or in the more spacious rooms in the main College quadrangle (the John Marsh Building).

Second years generally find their own accommodation outside College, and groups of friends often choose to rent a house together. The JCR will provide you with a useful 'housing pack' during your first term in Oxford, which will have useful tips and advice on everything you would need to know on renting your first student home. OUSU (The Oxford Student Union) also provide a lot of information for student houses. Most first years begin finalising their housing arrangements at the end of the first term, often inheriting houses from the existing second years. This timetable may seen very constrained, but don't worry, as there is plenty of time to make friends, view houses and sort out monetary issues.

Finalists live either on site, in the Ablethorpe Building (a fifteen-minute walk from College), or in College rented houses in Oxford. If your course is for four years then you are able to choose to have accommodation in either your third or fourth year of study.

GRADUATES

Under normal circumstances the College is able to accommodate for the first year of study all those requiring accommodation in College housing.  However, in order to avoid allocating rooms to those who may, for whatever reason, be unable to take up their place, accommodation will not be allocated until the beginning of September 2012. It is usually possible to ensure that all graduates do have College accommodation for their first year, but if Mansfield accommodation is oversubscribed at the time of making these allocations, the College will use its best endeavours to secure you accommodation elsewhere in Oxford.

Mansfield College offers housing for new graduates in a number of different buildings located around Oxford. Most of the available accommodation is in vibrant east Oxford, between a fifteen and thirty minute walk from the main college site. All of the buildings offer the facilities needed for a graduate student to study at Oxford, and east Oxford has an interesting mix of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as being the location of the University sports ground and gym facilities. There are differences in price between the various buildings to reflect the quality and location of the various rooms. All prices are at 2011-12 rates and are subject to increase.

The Accommodation Manager, Amanda Ward, can provide more details about all of these properties.

Rhodes Wolfson

The Rhodes Wolfson building is the graduate annex of the College's Ablethorpe undergraduate accommodation. This is a fifteen minute walk from the main College site. Rooms in this building are quite big and they are fully furnished with a single bed, desk, etc. There are typically three bathrooms to four residents. There is a large common room and also an outside common area. The kitchens in this building are also quite large and there is never more than five people to one kitchen. Rooms in the Rhodes-Wolfson building cost either £454.00 for a standard room or £480.00 for an en-suite room per month.

Cowley Road Houses

The College offers accommodation in a number of houses on Cowley Road. These are between a 25 and 30 minute walk from the College. These houses all have similar facilities,  and the differences between the houses are quite small. All of the rooms are furnished. They all offer great kitchen facilities,  and bathrooms are shared between a few people. There are large common areas, both indoors and outdoors in these houses. Rooms in the Cowley Road houses cost either £416.00 or £428.00 per month, with differences in prices reflecting a size difference between some of the rooms.

STUDENTS ON THE VISITING STUDENT PROGRAMME

Visiting students live in College accommodation. In order that Visiting Students may have a fuller experience of living in the UK, the College tries - as far as is practicable - to integrate their housing with that of other Mansfield students. All students have their own study-bedroom, and share kitchen and bathroom facilities. They also have access to the College Dining Hall for meals during term time together with all other College facilities.  Visiting students live either in the Ablethorpe Building, just over Magdalen Bridge, or in College houses in the Cowley are of the city. Visiting Students do not have to move out of their accommodation over the Easter and Christmas vacations, and Oxford can provide an excellent base for exploring the rest of the UK and Europe.

Meals

Hall
Hall

Mansfield has some of the best food in the University and at reasonable prices. Although there is no obligation to 'eat in,' students are encouraged to do so.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Dining Hall and most meals are cafeteria style. The menu is variably priced and there is a wide choice of meals, including vegetarian options.

The twice-weekly formal second sitting of dinner is very popular and there are regular special dinners such as a Thanksgiving dinner and a Burns night supper.

There are also kitchens on site for students who prefer to cook for themselves.
