Visiting Student Programme

About the Programme

The Visiting Student Programme offers suitably qualified students the opportunity to come to Oxford as members of Mansfield College and Registered Visiting Students of the University of Oxford.  We normally admit 35-40 VSP students per year, from Ivy League and other top US institutions and a few from other non-EU countries.   Students study arts, humanities, and social science subjects for one year.  Occasionally places are available for Hilary and Trinity terms (Spring semester): please write to vsp(at)mansfield.ox.ac.uk to enquire about availability.

Visiting students have access to all college facilities and are members of the JCR (Junior Common Room - the undergraduate student body).  As Registered Visiting Students of the University, they also have access to a wide range of University facilities, including the Bodleian Library, Faculty (subject) libraries, the Oxford University Computing Services, and the great wealth of lectures organized by the University throughout the academic year. Visit our Resources and Library pages to find out more.

We hope, in essence, to give visiting students the chance to experience the unique opportunities provided by study at Oxford while earning credit for their home institutions.

Application Procedure and Requirements

Admission to Oxford is competitive for all classes of students. Applicants for the Visiting Student Programme should have achieved a GPA of at least 3.7. Please note we will not be able to consider applicants who do not meet this academic requirement. We normally admit 35-40 VSP students per year, from Ivy League and other top US institutions and a few from other non-EU countries.

There are currently still a number of places available for the academic year 2014-15.

Applicants should send the following material to the Visiting Student Programme, Mansfield College, Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3TF

Information about fees for 2014-15 can be found here.

Accreditation

Upon successfully completing their studies at Mansfield, visiting students are provided with an Official Transcript of Record, recommending them for credit at their home institution. In addition to providing details of the course taken and grades received, the Transcript includes copies of the termly reports provided by their tutors. It is important to note that Mansfield itself does not award credit: hence prospective visiting students should consult with advisers at their home institution before selecting tutorial options to be taken at Oxford, to ensure that their Oxford studies will be acceptable for the purposes of credit transfer. Responsibility for clearing tutorial choices with the home institution rests entirely with the student.
