All our first year students come up to Oxford the week before their course begins and take part in a specially devised Induction Programme, which provides a wide range of information and guidance including:
Academic induction workshops: introducing you to some of the new skills that you need for studying at university, covering such issues as: problem solving skills; essay writing skills; time-management; taking lecture notes; using a reading list effectively; getting the most out of a tutorial.
Computer and Library sessions: introducing you to College and University library and computing facilities, alongside the subject-specific sessions provided by every faculty and department
Student-led workshop: a current student in your subject answers your questions, and talks to you about studying your subject at Mansfield and in Oxford.
Financial and domestic sessions: a meeting with the people in Mansfield who take care of student finance, health, welfare, pastoral care and discipline.
There are plenty of opportunities during this introductory week to get to know other students. As well as the usual Fresher's week activites to help you settle in, there is a tour of Oxford. Also we hold a dinner for all first years and their tutors, where we welcome you as new members of Mansfield’s community.
