Your Thoughts on English Dinner 2009

"Thank you for organising the English Subject Dinner.  I thought it was a really good night, and I actually came away with some useful contacts!" (Current Student)

"I enjoyed the dinner. I would come again. I enjoyed meeting those older and younger and sharing experiences of study and work. I would improve matters by: improving the food. The kitchen has to lift its game for marketing occasions such as this. Also why not deploy a team of meet-and-greeters at the dinner, from among the undergraduates, to move people about the room, serve drinks and the like? However, it seems to me that the dinner was: a great occasion for the English School to celebrate its successes one of those occasions that cements loyalties and provides the students in an Honour School with a sense of cohesiveness and shared endeavour a valuable resource for those seeking to network, or fact-find, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It can only help current students to meet and discuss career options with alumni. I am sure that the dinner will evolve into a key occasion for those studying English at Mansfield."

"Thanks very much. I thought it was a great success and a very convivial occasion. I was only sorry to have to leave before the port and coffee because of the unreliability of the trains. As it was I didn’t get home ‘til 2am!  Would it be possible in the future to have it in the vacation so that we could stay overnight?  If not -  coming by public transport one really needs somewhere to change. Or would lounge suits be sufficiently formal on a future occasion?  Anyway, I would certainly come again in a couple of years. The booklet was an excellent idea and the readings went well. Thanks again for organising it."

"Thank you very much for a most enjoyable evening.  I particularly enjoyed the readings. Just one thing thing for the future:  I would have really liked to have been sitting with at least one of the undergraduates.  One reason for attending was the hope - that didn't materialise - that one or two of my year group would turn up.  But the second, was the chance to meet current students.  I did manage to talk to one of them briefly afterwards, but it would have been much easier over dinner. I would definitely come again!"
