Specialises in British political culture of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with particular interests in the political engagement of women and children. Publications include The Early Feminists (1995), British Women in Politics, 1760-1860 (2000), British Women in the Nineteenth Century (2001), Radical Writing on Women (2002) and Borderline Citizens: British Women and Political Culture 1815-1867 (2009).
